. apparently it is training that is the issue. the people that were supposed to set them up and use them today had some problems setting them up. about six machines not working at this point or maybe they have been fixed at this point. but at last talk to the elections officials they told us they are having some issues. but the precincts are still open. you are still able to go in and fill out a ballot like i did this morning with a pencil and paper. basically the easy way of doing it instead of going to the new high-tech machines. now let's talk about the candidates. a busy morning. a lot of them up very early this morning. we have some video of vincent gray this morning voting at the precinct near his home in southeast, along alabama avenue. that happened about an hour and a half ago. he voted there near his home. also we have been told that adrian fenty also voted near his home on 13th street northwest. we're in the process of trying to get that video. it's on the way back to the station. we'll get it on as soon as possible. but we do have some video about 5:30 this morning of a rally that
vacation traffic. d.c. metro has the second worst gridlock in the nation. joining us from along the beltway, john townsend. good morning. >> good morning. >> i guess we can be glad we don't have the worst. >> we have the second worst. look at this on 95 and 495. the concourse of 95 and 495, absolute gridlock. this will take almost 45 minutes to untangle and if you're here and you don't see or hear us, your stuck in absolute gridlock. >> how much can we blame on this terrible traffic tuesday, back to school and back to work, as opposed to any other tuesday this time of year? >> well if you live in this area, you know it's been a bad summer. especially in summer with all of the construction going on. but now this is ground zero because everyone comes back to work, everybody is back from vacation and all of the school systems are operational today and that explains this next us of gridlock that we see here today and will feel throughout the area. think about this, there are 3 million workers in our area, 1.5 million of them will drive to work alone. 500,000 people on metro. and you have to inc

to the wire. and we have some video of the gift card controversy. hidden camera style that was given to us by a fenty supporter who postd it on you tube and it was thought that councilman gray's campaign was handing out the gift cards as an effort to entire people to come out and vote early. that will be a flagrant violation of the law. both sides disavowed any knowledge of this and cora masters barry did say she was handing out the cards, but after the fact to thank people for voting. and behind me there is early voting going on. fenty workers are out there. and they've been out here many days people are able to cast their ballots. the area at 1 judiciary square is alreadyered with -- is littered with campaign signs and i saw people trying to put signs down on any inch of unclaimed real estate of which there are very few left and today is the last day of early voting. tomorrow is primary election day. and here in our city, without a republican contender, this is tantamount to the election day and it will be exciting after a long campaign to find out who will be the successful candidate in
